These “Forgotten Pages” are a part of a larger series of works entitled “Lost Language.” With these small works (typically 9″ x 10″), I explore layers of texts, overlaid like ancient palimpsests. I build the images from bits of lost languages, ancient universal symbols, and “faux text”–marks and gestures I make up myself. The format suggests book pages–a common cultural means of communication. What seems “readable” is not; what seems “unreadable” is–a confusion of meanings and understandings. All layers of text are hand stitched on recycled family linens, overlaid with silk organza or netting.
